REHABILITATION SERVICES AUDIT

The Australasian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre (AROC) has partnered with the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) to gain a greater understanding of the number, size and models of Rehabilitation services in Australia and New Zealand.

The aims of this first audit are to gain a greater understanding of the different rehabilitation models of care offered across Australia and New Zealand and identify contacts best able to respond to future, more detailed, surveys about their specific rehabilitation service/ward. Information will be used to inform future initiatives such as the national rehabiltiation strategy and further development of AROC's datasets, reporting and member resources.

All service and other contact details will remain confidential and any summary survey findings will not identify individual services by name.

Rehabilitation in the home inpatient substitution definition - Inpatient substitution includes RITH models that accept referrals primarily from inpatient services and attempt to substitute for some or all of an inpatient rehabilitation stay. These models accept patients onto a program prior to an inpatient discharge and this program commences as soon as practical (i.e. within 48 hours of discharge into the community). RITH teams sit under the medical governance of a rehabilitation physician or a physician with training and expertise in rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation in the home non-inpatient substitution definition - Non-inpatient substitution refers to models that provide rehabilitation in the home which may occur after an inpatient admission or be referred from the community but does not seek to substitute an inpatient rehabilitation stay but may substitute for an ambulatory or hospital/clinic based program. For these services patients may be on a waiting list while at home after an inpatient admission.
